I got this in my e-mail today. With the "Health Care Summit" going on, it seems appropriate to include it here. I haven't checked snopes or ask to see if they think it is as it says it is. That doesn't matter. It is well said and true.
John G. Is 63 years old and owns a small business. He's a life-long Republican and sees his dream of retiring next year has all but evaporated. With the stock market crashing and new taxes coming his way, John assumes now that he will work to his dying day.
John has a granddaughter. Ashley is a recent college grad. She drives a flashy hybrid car, wears all the latest fashions, and loves to go out to nightclubs and restaurants. Ashley campaigned hard for Barack Obama.. After the election she made sure her grandfather (and all other Republican family members) received a big I told-you-so earful on how the world is going to be a much better place now that her party is taking over.
Having lost both roommates, Ashley recently ran short of cash and cannot pay the rent (again) on her 3 bedroom townhouse. Like she has done many times in the past, she e-mailed her grandfather asking for some financial help.
Here is his reply:
Sweetheart, I received your request for assistance.
Ashley, you know I love you dearly and I 'm sympathetic to your financial plight. Unfortunately, times have changed. With the election of President Obama, your grandmother and I have had to set forth a bold new economic plan of our own..."The Ashley Economic Empowerment Plan." Let me explain.
Your grandmother and I are life-long, wage-earning tax payers. We have lived a comfortable life, as you know, but we have never had the fancier things like European vacations, luxury cars, etc. We have worked hard and were looking forward to retiring soon. But the plan has changed. Your president is raising our personal and business taxes significantly. He says it is so he can give our hard earned money to other people. Do you know what this means, Ashley? It means less for us, and we must cut back on many business and personal expenses.
You know the wonderful receptionist who worked in my office for more than 23 years? The one who always gave you candy when you came over to visit? I had to let her go last week. I can't afford to pay her salary and all of the government mandated taxes that go with having employees. Your grandmother will now work 4 days a week to answer phones, take orders and handle the books. We will be closed on Fridays and will lose even more income to the Wal-Mart.
I'm also very sorry to report that your cousin Frank will no longer be working summers in the warehouse. I called him at school this morning. He already knows about it and he's upset because he will have to give up skydiving and his yearly trip to Greenland to survey the polar bears.
That's just the business side of things. Some personal economic effects of Obama's new taxation policies include none other than you. You know very well that over the years your grandmother and I have given you thousands of dollars in cash, tuition assistance, food, housing, clothing, gifts, etc., etc. But by your vote, you have chosen to help others -- not at your expense -- but at our expense.
If you need money now sweetheart, I recommend you call 202-456-1111 . That is the direct phone number for the White House. You can also contact the White House here: http://www/..whitehouse.gov/CONTACT/ .
You yourself told me how foolish it is to vote Republican. You said Mr. Obama is going to be the People's President, and is going to help every American live a better life. Based on everything you've told me, along with all the promises we heard during the campaign, I'm sure Mr. Obama will be happy to transfer some stimulus money into your bank account. Have him call me for the account number which I memorized years ago..
Perhaps you can now understand what I've been saying all my life: those who vote for a president should consider the impact on the nation as a whole, and not be just concerned with what they can get for themselves. What Obama supporters don't seem to realize is all of the money he is redistributing to illegal aliens and non-taxpaying Americans (the so-called "less fortunate") comes from tax-paying families.
Remember how you told me, "Only the richest of the rich will be affected"? Well guess what, honey? Because we own a business, your grandmother and I are now considered to be the richest of the rich. On paper, it might look that way, but in the real world, we are far from it.
As you said while campaigning for Obama, some people will have to carry more of the burden so all of America can prosper. You understand what that means, right? It means that raising taxes on productive people results in them having less money; less money for everything, including granddaughters.
I'm sorry, Ashley, but the well has run dry.. The free lunches are over. I have no money to give you now. So, congratulations on your choice for "change." For future reference, I encourage you to try and add up the total value of the gifts and cash you have received from us, just since you went off to college, and compare it to what you expect to get from Mr. Obama over the next 4 (or 8) years. I have not kept track of it, Ashley. It has all truly been the gift of our hearts.
Remember, we love you dearly....but from now on you'll need to call the number mentioned above. Your "Savior" has the money we would have given to you. Just try and get it from him.
Good luck, sweetheart.
Love, Grandpa

It it just SOOO embarassing
I am embarassed for this president. He is un-presidential. He has no clue.
Do you think his handlers keep him in the dark?
He must know that we are tired of him and his foolishmess.
How could he not know?
Is it his arrogance?
What can people across the world think?
Maybe he will get it after the House and Senate change hands in November.
He is almost at the bottom, now.
Sure glad I didn't vote for him!

Danny Tarkanian, who is he, really?
I think it's time to review the conservative candidates running for the U.S. Senate here in Nevada, and choose one to support. I've researched them and I have chosen to support Sue Lowden to dump Harry Reid. My research tells me that Danny Tarkanian's mother is a long time Democrat. Las Vegas school board for 12 years, city council since 2005 and on the 'kill the Yucca mountain' board. You really think Danny isn't a RINO?
I've also discovered that the Tarkanian family is adept at using the legal system to their advantage. The family is currently involved in a lawsuit to keep from having a foreclosure on one of their commercial properties. Last year Danny won a lawsuit against his opponent from a lost State race. Dad, Jerry, got $1.3 million from the San Antonio Spurs in 1992 and used part of that to go after the NCAA in 1998 to sue for $2.5 million. Danny is an attorney who practiced civil law. Why we call it ‘civil’ is beyond me. Do you think we would ever get tort reform if Danny gets into the Senate?
I'm just sayin'...

The Reid Family Dy-NASTY
I have begun calling this situation the Reid family dy-nasty. It isn't good for Nevada. Rory shouldn't be governor.

THE SENATORS SONS : Members of one lawmakers family represent nearly every major industry in their home state. And their clients rely on his goodwill.

Click above to go to Sue Lowden's site to take a quick poll about Harry Reid. Harry isn't thinking quite right these days and we need to let him know. It will only take a few minutes.

Tea Party Squared - who are they?
So, the following folks are listed as being part of Tea Party Squared who has just registered to be on the ballot in Nevada. I did some research when I first heard about it, to see who these folks are. Dr. Sid James, Curtis Atwood, Eric Scholer, Barry Levinson, Daniel Hayden, Kiana Hayden, Romy Ashjian, Keith Ozawa, Jim Ebel and Larry Lathum and the candidate is Jon Ashjian.

Palace wedding: Mary Langdon Weinstein, daughter of Nancy and Jack Weinstein, and Michael Fredericks, son of Buz Fredericks and Susan Sullivan of Las Vegas , were united in marriage Saturday at Caesars Palace .
The sunset ceremony took place in the corridor of the Emperors Ballroom where a string trio played as invited guests took their seats.
Both sides of the white-carpeted aisle were draped in ivory tulle with ivory satin ribbon. Tall Roman columns extended down the sides of the corridor, wrapped in ivory tulle over white twinkle lights. Dozens of pink roses topped each column all the way to the hoopa where Rabbi Mel Hecht officiated.
The bride chose a strapless ivory gown of Alencon lace accented with crystal-beaded overlay. The cathedral-length veil had matching lace appliques fashioned of crystal beads, and she carried a cascading bouquet of pink roses.
The maid of honor was the bride's sister, Polly Weinstein, and Romy Ashjian served as matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Elena Langdon, Lisa Marra and Jaimeson Fredericks. They wore strapless champagne satin/taffeta gowns over a crystal-beaded ivory inset, and carried pink rose bouquets.
Flower girls were Cheyenne Richardson and Kenzie Sullivan.
Best man Mark Montoya attended the groom, and groomsmen were Chris Clyne, Sean Langdon, Joseph Weinstein and Scott Brill. The ring bearer was Jack Sullivan.
Nancy Weinstein selected a silk chiffon gown in plum with plum lace appliqués, and Susan Sullivan wore a multitiered silk/satin strapless gown in vivid magenta.
The wedding dinner was specially prepared by chef Jeff Walters of Caesars Palace and began with vichyssoise, followed by a salad of baby romaine with goat cheese crostini, orange segments, roasted beets and honey lime vinaigrette. A raspberry sorbet was next.

A 'real' Tea Party in Nevada?
I am a little ... actually a lot... concerned today. Some folks in Las Vegas got together and formed what they are calling the Nevada Tea Party and they've registered it with the State of Nevada. They have a candidate to run against Harry and whoever wins the Republican primary (Sue Lowden from my point of view). I don't think they are real "tea-partiers' and may have hi-jacked the name. Not a good thing, number 1. Number 2 is my concern that we will have a split vote like we had when Bill Clinton was elected, thanks to Ross Perot. That wouldn't be good.
I believe those of us who think like the main-stream tea party person, which is to stop Obama/Pelosi/Reid from their freightrain to socialism or marxism.. whatever you want to call it, should go at this a different way. We should find conservative candidates to support and campaign for them. Then, any RINO's or others who don't have a platform that we approve of, should be campaigned against. We need to maintain the two-party system and fix it.
I'm just sayin'...

Letters to the editor
I don't know why I do it, but I do it almost everyday: I read the letters to the editor in our local paper, the Reno Gazette-Journal. Today I had to set it aside for a while and read one letter at a time. There were a few that I, have you guessed? disagree with.
Letter #1
So, this woman thanks Tea Party people and town hall people for causing her and others who are under 65 to lose health insurance.
What is that? They are real people who care about this country.
Open your ears! Everyone wants reform - some of us don't want it to bankrupt the country. Some of us would like to have something to say about how it happens. I disagree with the titles this person has applied to those folks who continue to demonstrate on this unhappy woman's behalf, protecting her rights and future.
Very short-sighted and uninformed.
Then she thanks the blue-dog democrats for only wanting to get re-elected?
What did they do? The freaking bills passed!
Then, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin for spreading false information so that the "uninformed" would be so scared they would live on every word they spoke.
How did she determine that they "spread false info?" From where I sit, everything I heard I found to be truthful. Perhaps their words weren't in agreement with her false assumptions?
Then, whoever she refers to as the "I have mine so the hell with you" folks, so Obama can't get anything done.
What? We should allow this President to bankrupt this country so she can have... what? Perhaps working for it? Just sayin..
Mr. Bush gets thanked for giving all the tax breaks to big business so they would create jobs, but didn't.
WHAT? Who helped to create the 15 million jobs that have been lost in the last two years? One of those years that the congress was controlled by Democrats and one where the Presidency was also held by a Democrat. What is she thinking?
She jumps on both Democrats and Republicans for helping China so they can take all of our jobs and own us.
She wants it both ways. She wants to be liberal when it suits her and provides what she wants and switches to conservative when it is more convenient.
Her last hurrah is a shot at big business for taking their jobs to China so they can make a huge profit.
Who... I ask WHO? benefits when companies make profits? Hey, lady, have you ever heard about the people who invest in the company? Shareholders ring a bell?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Letter #2
Then there is the guy in Carson City who takes on the Mayor of Las Vegas who took Obama to task for telling people they shouldn't go spend money in Las Vegas. He belabors the point that billions of dollars have been "wasted/lost in Las Vegas, maintaining that Obama was right in his admonishment.
I had to wait an hour to re-visit this one.... So, we are really lucky here in Nevada that we don't have a personal income tax. I wonder why that is? I wonder why there is now gambling in 48 of our states? This guy reaps the benefits yet doesn't get it? How can you not get it? I just can't say anything more about this, it is so asinine that this guy doesn't get it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Letter #3
Finally, a man, who maintains that he loves dogs, chastises the Reno Fire Department for using a fire truck to take a dog that they rescued from a burning building to a vet for treatment.
What would he have them do? Walk?
I'm sure you can see why I had to read these one at a time and take rest periods.

Letter #2
Then there is the guy in Carson City who takes on the Mayor of Las Vegas who took Obama to task for telling people they shouldn't go spend money in Las Vegas. He belabors the point that billions of dollars have been "wasted/lost in Las Vegas, maintaining that Obama was right in his admonishment.
I had to wait an hour to re-visit this one.... So, we are really lucky here in Nevada that we don't have a personal income tax. I wonder why that is? I wonder why there is now gambling in 48 of our states? This guy reaps the benefits yet doesn't get it? How can you not get it? I just can't say anything more about this, it is so asinine that this guy doesn't get it.

Does Harry Reid believe what he says?
I got another e-mail newsletter from Harry this morning. I'm compelled to read them, sort of like when you drive past a car wreck and you have to look. Whoever writes his stuff is a master at propaganda. Today he tells me that he has introduced a JOBS bill that will benefit all Nevadans. Right. He is so out of touch with the real world it is beyond comprehension. Harry, look at is this way:
The money you want to spend isn't money at all.
It is borrowed paper from China who already owns a good portion of us.
If it were 'real' money, it would be our own tax money.
How can we get out of the recession and get jobs when it is 'funny-money' or our own money in the first place?
Let us keep our money.
We will do a whole bunch better.
And, why in the world would you advocate employers not paying into social security when the system is in the shape it is?
What are you thinking?
Is your mind even engaged?
Your days in the Senate are numbered, Harry.
Sue Lowden will be replacing you.
She knows how business works.
She isn't an attorney.
And, she knows how to think.
Thank goodness!
See ya, Harry!

WHO KNEW?
Making phone calls is fun!
At Sue Lowden's campaign headquarters last night, I had such a good time. My list of names to call included some very unique synergies. The very first call was to be to a person named......
Nympha.
Nice name
Unusual
No one answered, so I left a message.
About five names down.....

Rare name
Really different

I've got some issues tonight
Watching and listening to the news today and this evening, I've got a couple of things just irritating me no end.
1. John McCain's daughter went on the View and took exception to the Tea Party folks. She said that the Tea Party is alienating young people - that revolutions are started by the young, not people who are 65! How much more wrong-thinking can that young woman be? The world and the country are only for the young? Where are the young people and their revolution? Perhaps it is taking "mature" citizens, who know what this country means, what the constitution is, who see what the "hope and change" that the young voted for is doing to all of us, to do something about it. I know the young, like Ms. McCain, think that they are more intelligent than people over thirty, but they have no idea what they are in danger of losing. On top of that, Ms. McCain, this group of people are the same ones who started a revolution or two a few years ago - the Vietnam war... civil rights... any of that ring a bell? What is that?
2. The National Organization of Women have outworn their welcome, sort of like big unions. They had some good points fifty years ago, but they are so out of touch with mainstream women as to be from another world. First, they jumped up and down and ranted that the Tim Tebow ad should be pulled from CBS because they didn't like the sound of it. Then they decided to make their own ads that promoted their own agenda to counterbalance what they thought the Tebow ad was going to be. Once the ad ran and their strident screeches were seen to have been for naught, they had to find a new reason to support their foolishness. The ad promoted violence against women, according to the president of the organization, Terry O'Neill after the groups "jock-ocrisy" watch during the game. Both of their stands are ridiculous. What is that?
3. How can anyone.... ANYONE? compare Sarah Palin's 7 words written on her hand to remind her of salient points in her speech, with a teleprompter that tells Obama what to say every time he gets in front of a camera? Did you hear Andrea Mitchell? While I don't always agree with her perspective, I used to think that she was a decent reporter. Her "imitation", if that is what one could call it, on the air, with her cohorts was beneath her. She should be ashamed. What is that?
I heard about a book during the Presidential campaign. The Liberal Mind by Lyle Rossiter, Jr., M.D. defines the "Psychological Cause of Political Madness. I suggest reading it by anyone who is frustrated by trying to deal with individuals who think the way that Megan McCain, Terry O'Neill and Andrea Mitchell do. It doesn't change them, but it takes away some of the teeth-clenching you do becasue you know they are some of the most unhappy people on earth. I'm really surprised by John's daughter. But, oh well.
4. Finally, I wonder if Obama knows how many jobs he destroyed in one fell swoop by eliminating the Mars program from NASA in his budget. He keeps the handouts and the spending increases for... well.. I can't write about it anymore. Sometimes it just isn't enough to know he's an unhappy person.

Did I mention I love NASCAR?
glad I got back from the seminar in time!
the Budweiser Shootout at Daytona is on TV!
i've been suffering since November, without a
weekly race.
the season is getting underway! YAY!
My favorite driver - Carl Edwards...
Well, just in case you aren't enamored of stock car racing, I won't bore you with more pictures. But, don't be surprised if I post a whole bunch from Texas in May. We've been to Phoenix, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Talladega... going to try a new track this year, I think...

Grassroots Campaign School
Thanks Obama!
Because of you and your
anti-constitutional, anti-freedom, anti-anti
policies and actions, I had to fly to Las Vegas!
It rains about once a year in Las Vegas.
Of course, it's this week-end.
Shouldn't complain. It isn't snow!
And, I learned a bunch in 11 hours.
For instance:
Never underestimate the intelligence
of the voter and never overestimate
the interest of the voter in the election.
Elections are about choices and definitions.
Political success is determined by the
number and effectivness of the
activists on any given side.
It's okay for a candidate to change
his or her mind. If he or she did or
said something one way five years
ago and feels differently now, that
can be a good thing. We grow and
learn and change our minds.
I could go on, but I'm still digesting.
Wow! This was fun!

HOW DISINGENOUS CAN ONE BE?
I got to the Leadership Institute Grassroots Campaign School on time - 8:30 A.M.
Caught a look at who I thought was Sharron Angle.
Saw the other 100 or so folks that attended last night, too.
WHOA! It is Sharron! She is standing with all of the other candidates who are attending the seminars.
All of the hopefuls tell us for what office they are running and why we should vote for them.
Sharron says something about Harry Reid, I think, but I'm just so surprised to see her, I'm really not listening.
Robert Arnakis, the seminar leader, asks them to get into a group for a picture. AHA! I wonder if THAT is why she has appeared - for the photo-op?
Sharron, in the red jacket, is just to the left of the tall guy in the blue shirt. My phone got this.
She wasn't there to attend the seminar. What is that?
Puts me in mind of Obama who is the champion at exploitation of photo-ops.
I'm offended. Really.
Bill Parsons', Another Republican candidate, wife is here for the seminar and stays the whole day.
I guess Sharron just knows it all already.
It's stuff like this that makes me know that my decision to support Sue Lowden is the right one.

Albert Einstein & politics?
Barry Aarons, one of the speakers at the seminar I attended tonight, had that as the last slide in his power point presentation. He spoke about 'Personal Solicitation Fundraising" for political campaigns. It spoke volumes to me. It is exactly why I'm here in Las Vegas.The world is a dangerous place. Not because of those who do evil but because of those who look on and do nothing Albert Einstein
I got some great ideas for fundraising. The tidbits that fell out about President Bush' campaigns and Scott Brown's were fascinating. I enjoyed the three hours.
I hope that tomorrow's eight hours will be equally as fulfilling.

The hole in our lives
When I wrote my first post I was sitting up in bed, surrounded by animals. One of them was Hank, a lab we adopted earlier in the week. We got Hank because we had a hole in our family, left by the death of our special dog, Bennie, last November.
It became more and more difficult to find the energy to put on those shoes and drive to the lake. Bennie would sit down in front of me, cock his head and put his ears up.... you know the look... pleaseeee? That was enough to urge me to put on the shoes and go... for the next couple of weeks, anyway. I was down to about a mile each time, by then. And, interestingly enough, Bennie wasn't ranging off so far into the brush any longer. He'd still take trips, but he checked on my progress ever more often.
But for Bennie, we wouldn't have made any progress at all in week five, and especially in week six. Bennie actually pushed on me and 'shamed' me into getting on those shoes and getting to the lake. On the Monday of the final week of treatments I was walking about two blocks. I was exhausted. I was still working full time and getting up early to get to the hospital treatment center before work, and it was taking its toll. But, knowing how much Bennie looked forward to our time at the lake I found the strength to get us there. The last week, Bennie didn't leave the path in front of me. He would go ahead a few feet, but then stop and look back at me.
At home, Bennie laid down on my side of the bed, slept on my feet, and if he left the room I was in, he would come back to see if all was well... until he knew I was back to normal. I don't know how he knew, but he did.
Let me take a minute and tell you about Bennie. He and I had a very special bond. Three years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a 'lumpectomy' (not as minor as it sounds, by the way) and radiation. I feel ever so grateful that I didn't need chemo.. I thought the radiation would be a piece of cake. Right. It started out okay, for the first week of a treatment every morning for six weeks. I was still able to take Bennie to the lake for our two mile walks when I got home and on the weekend. We'd done that everyday that the weather allowed us to for several years. He loved these walks. When he saw me sit down to put my walking shoes on he jumped and hopped and yipped as if he had just won the doggie lottery. During our walk, while I was covering two miles, he would range out into the sage brush, or into the willows, sniffing and doing what makes dogs happy. Periodically he'd peek out of the bushes to make sure I was still within romping distance and then continue on his quest.
I have been cancer-free now for over three years. Bennie and I continued our walks, and when the water got
so low in the lake, we made our way all the way around it. It was on one of those laps that I realized Bennie wasn't acting quite right. I took care of him, just as he had me. But, I'm still here and he isn't.
God, he was a good dog.

I quickly discovered them and found a favorite.

Less than 3000 years ago,
I took a World History class and an Art History class at the same time.

I had some aspirations ...
Archeologist, perhaps...
Anthropologist, maybe
I had visions
Walking over dusty paths and being rewarded with a glimpse back in time
What is this place?
Will we see a hobbit?
Do people live here today?
Indeed, they do.
A truly extraordinary place.

When I got these pictures in an email from a friend, I was astonished.
Isn't it amazing?

What I like about this volunteering thing
“Hi, is this Curtis?”
“Yes, it is.”
“Hi, Curtis. My name is Char Coburn and I’m a volunteer for the Sue Lowden for United States Senate campaign. Could I ask you three brief questions?”
“I’m out in the north pasture right now. I’ll tell you what. I’ll hang up. You call back.”
“Oh, well, certainly. I’m sorry to interrupt you. Thank you for your time!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“May I please speak to Margaret?”
“This is.”
“Margaret, hello. I’m Char Coburn and I’m calling on behalf of the Sue Lowden for Senate campaign. She is a republican, running in the primary and against Harry Reid in November. Can I take a moment of your time for a couple of questions?”
“Sure.”
“Thank you. First, of the following issues, which would you say is most important to you?
Jobs/economy
National Security/homeland security
Social issues/ health care-education
Moral issues/ abortion-traditional marriage
"That's tough, but I think Jobs and economy."
"Thank you, and that is Sue's priority, as well."
"We support Sue. We've donated to her campaign and intend to vote for her."
"Thank you so much!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I really look forward to the hours that I spend at Sue Lowden's campaign headquarters. Above are some paraphrased conversations I've had over the last couple of weeks when making phone calls.
Oh yeah, I've had a few of the "I don't talk politics over the phone" and "I'm eating dinner right now", but the greater majority are interested, engaged and positive.
I go home energized and, once again, convinced that I am doing something good. I strongly recommend that you add this to your own "bucket list".
